          &All About Liposuction

          What is Liposuction?

Liposuction is a surgical procedure mainly used to correct deep and superficial fat accumulations and remodel the body contour.

Liposuction procedure is based on removing fat via vacuuming with a thin tube, called a cannula. Liposuction is used to remove fat from those areas which are not responding to diet and exercise.

Liposuction surgery is not a method for weight loss, it's a procedure of removing fat from very specific areas such as hips, belly, thighs, buttocks, back, arms, and under the chin or face to improve their shape.

Sometimes liposuction is combined with other surgeries like abdominoplasty, face lift, breast augmentation, tummy tuck, mommy makeover etc...

Liposuction procedure is used for restoration to create more fullness by transferring the purified fat as fillers to the areas like face, butt, breasts etc...

Who Might Want To Get Liposuction?

The most common areas to undergo liposuction are the torso, arms and legs, breasts, buttocks, and around the chin or jawline. If you have regional fat problems in these areas, you may consider liposuction treatment.

These are all areas of subcutaneous fat, just under your skin, above your muscles and internal organs.

Who are the Right Candidates for Liposuction?

          A good candidate for liposuction has to be;

          • Adults within 30% of their ideal weight who have a good muscle tone and firm, elastic skin. (BMI -body mass index- of 30 or below.)
          • The ones in realistic expectations,
          • Healthy individuals without any chronic or potentially fatal diseases and medical conditions, (Doctors don’t recommend the procedure if you have health problems with blood flow or have heart disease, diabetes, or a weak immune system.)
          • Individuals has to be non-smoker

          How is Liposuction Done?

Liposuction surgery may vary due to many factors such as the patient’s preference, amount and type of fat to be removed, and according to the surgeon’s opinion.

In general all types of liposuction is performed under local anesthesia and intravenous sedation (for a small area) or general anesthesia.

All the procedures have in common is the use of a cannula connected to a vacuum to suct the fat out of the body. The procedure takes an hour or two depending on how many areas of the body you’re getting done.

How Should You Prepare for Liposuction?

Do regular and scheduled sports because many studies show that regular exercise before Liposuction has a positive effect on the results of the operation.

Have a vegetable-based diet and speak softly, because in order for body shaping operations to give the best results in combination, it is necessary to reduce the internal fat deposits before the operation. Another indispensable element for this is to follow a healthy diet.

Keep your weight stable. If you think that it is a good idea to diet hard and lose weight quickly before liposuction, you are wrong. Before body shaping operations, rapid weight gain or loss may seriously affect the outcome of your surgery and may cause the need for revision surgery.

Quit smoking. There are many studies in the literature that cigarette consumption negatively affects and delays wound healing.

Follow exactly what your plastic surgeon says.

          What Happens Before Liposuction Procedure?

It is very important for the patient to prepare him/herself psychologically before liposuction. Knowing what you will experience after liposuction will be an extremely good preparation step.

You should know that you will have pain for a few days after liposuction, that you should wear a medical garment, that nutrition and sports should be part of your life, and that you will have drains after surgery.

Since you will receive anesthesia, you must come to the hospital hungry and follow other instructions given by your doctor.

          What Happens During Liposuction Procedure?

After the anesthesia is given, the treatment is started with the liposuction technique preferred by the surgeon.

In which area liposuction is to be performed, the fat is absorbed by small cannulas and removed from the body. If desired, this fat can be transferred to another area of the body to be plumped.

          What Happens After Liposuction Procedure?

Fat removal surgery varies according to the area where the procedure will be performed and the amount of fat to be removed. The duration of the operation will also increase accordingly.

The surgery may vary between 1-3 hours depending on the conditions we have mentioned. After your operation is over, you will be taken to the recovery room.

You will be taken to your room after you wake up in the company of the anesthesiologist.

What is the Ideal Season for Liposuction?

Actually, all seasons are suitable for liposuction. The advantage of the spring months is that it gives the person a recovery period before the summer.

If a fitter look is desired in the summer, it is possible to go to the sea or the beach easily after 3-4 months by having liposuction in the spring.

How Long Does a Liposuction Last?

There is a finite number of fat cells in our body. Each fat cell acts as storage for whatever fat molecule circulates in the body.

If there are less fat cells in one area after liposuction fewer fat cells will accumulate in that region.

Results are permanent if the patient has a healthy diet and lifestyle. But if this balance is off, one may either gain or lose weight after liposuction.

What are the Stages of Swelling After Liposuction?

1 to 2 weeks after liposuction surgery, swelling in the area turns into hardness, which lasts for an average of 3 months.

This stiffness is actually an indication that the treated areas are healing. The stiffness softens over time, excess fluid and swelling go away from the body.

After 6 months to a year you will notice an improved body contour immediately.

What are the Types of Liposuction?

There are several types of liposuction, each designed for different areas and purposes. Here’s a simple breakdown of the main types:

          1. Tumescent Liposuction
This is the most common type of liposuction. A special solution is injected into the fat area to make the fat easier to remove. It’s commonly used for the abdomen, thighs, and arms.

          2. Ultrasound-Assisted ( Vaser) Liposuction (UAL)
Ultrasound waves break down fat cells, making them easier to suction out. This method is often used for larger areas like the back and stomach, and it's also good for areas with dense fat.

For patients looking for more definition in their stomach, abdominal etching- 6 pack targets specific areas to create the look of toned abs. Devices like VASER (ultrasound-assisted) are beneficial for this procedure because they allow for more precision.

The VASER device is commonly used for Hi-Def liposuction. It uses ultrasound technology to break down fat while preserving the surrounding tissues and muscles. This precision allows surgeons to remove fat in specific areas, giving the body a sculpted look.

For more information about abdominal etching- 6-pack surgery, read our blog.

          3. Laser-Assisted Liposuction (LAL)
A laser is used to liquefy fat, which makes it easier to remove. This type works well for smaller areas like the neck and chin.

          4. Power-Assisted Liposuction (PAL)
This uses a vibrating cannula (tube) to break up fat. It’s efficient for areas like the hips, buttocks, and abdomen. PAL is often quicker and requires less effort from the surgeon.
